I am virtually joining to celebrate Republic Day event hosted by Pooja for the Theme of the Month.
Little History to share
January 26 2008 – 59 th Republic Day
Back to my memories
Republic Day in India was another National holiday being a school kid. I remember our beach road blocked for the parade. The statue of Gandhi has been decorated with lights and flower garlands. The whole nation celebrates with spirit. This 59 th Republic Day will be celebrated with the Chief Guest- French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
As far as relating Food world and the History: The great spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi began a non-violence protest against the British for the Salt Tax .The event called Salt Satyagraha (Salt March) on March 12, 1930.
I came out with a very simple recipe, may be eaten everyday in all Indian houses. Glad, it could be classified in my Dummies section!
The curd rice /yogurt rice got a smiley face or patriotic touch! It all depends how you view my art! I showed my kid the picture. He said 'wow funny face mummy' but as an adult I can interpret as a patriotic flag.
Sunny, rainy or snowy, my kid and I adore it. For sunny day, I cool it in the fridge before serving and freezing cold days, I just warm it in microwave. Curd rice and little pickle go a long way.
Curd Rice recipe:
Ingredient
Rice: usually left over or cooked rice
Yogurt: as much as u like
Milk: make it little thinner and not much tangier
Sour cream (optional): dollop
Salt: as per your taste
Seasoning:
Oil:1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds:1/4 tsp
Curry leaves: few
Green chilis:1 or 2
Ginger: grated ½ tsp
Hing: a pinch
Rice should be little soft or sprinkle little water and microwave a minute. Run your fork and mash it down, add plain yogurt, salt and dollop of sour cream (Creamier Version).
Heat oil in a pan and add the seasoning, pour in the rice and mix it.
Garnish with grated carrots, coriander leaves, and even grapes or fruit of your choice!
Some people call it Bhagala Bath too!
Enjoy the Indian flag before I finish my salad :) Grated carrot- bean sprout and cucumber
Wish all the viewers Happy Republic Day!
