Kichdhi in microwave

To admit, I never cooked a complete dish in microwave . I just warm up my cup of milk minum or reheat my leftover rice or gravy and that is! After I started blogging, I noticed many bloggers are pretty comfortable to come up with so many MW dishes. Especially Srivalli hosting a Microwave theme cooking event; many recipes are flooding her blog every month. Well i was wondering howfikir .So decided to make a bold step and participate her event last month, I came up with something simple and sweet. To tell the truth, it was little challenging including few stopping/canceling and closing my microwave door, stirring and keeping back in microwave every few seconds and just imagine my microwave is above the range! Phew penat

When easycrafts announced the theme of microwave Breakfast for WBB event originated by Nandita of Saffron trail. Though, how i gonna face two challenging MW entries this month? I finally decided to cook my breakfast in MW and the recipe was Sabudana kichdi! First time, I am cooking sabudana in microwave…. Cooking in stove top, sabudana could turn lumpy (what a crucial test !) i was little skepticaldoa but it came out pretty good, proof of picture!

Sabudana Kichdi cooked in microwave

Ingredients:

Tapioca/Pearl sago/Sabudana/Javvu arisi (tamil): 1 cup

Peanuts: 3 tbsp roasted and coarsely grinded

Potato: 1 optional (I didn’t use it)

Salt : per your taste

Seasoning:

Mustard seeds: ½ tsp

Cumin: ½ tsp

Chillis: 3 diced

Curry leaves: few leaves

Oil or ghee: 2 tsp

Garnish:

Cilantro: chopped

Lemon juice: 1 tsp

Method in microwave:

Rinse the sabudana (tapioca) once, add enough water until all the grains are just immerse in water. Cover and let it soak overnight. Morning, you should find the sabudana soft to touch and no water! Take a fork or with your finger separate those grains.

If your using poatato: Wash the potato and cover with a paper towel and use option " baked potato " (Most US microwave have the option or set to 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 min , depend about the spud size- let it cool and peel it)

Starts with a microwave safe bowl with oil or ghee and set 1 min. add the seasoning and set for another 2 min. Once it starts to split, please cover it this stage or ready to give a deep clean ur microwave - cook without lid, take it out add the sabudana. Cook for 1 minute, the tapioca will turn translucent, take it out and mix gently, add ghee or oil if it sticks the bowl. Add the potato, salt, and peanut and set for another minute. I cooked in 2 minutes the sabudana!

Take out and fluff with a fork, garnish with potatoes. Pour the lemon juice and enjoy the kichdi!

Total time of preparation in Microwave: 5 min , if u cook the potato add another 4 min !

All microwave settings are differents and depend about the microwave power range.

Have a great weekend babaiIf my post appears in TOI today ...
