Barley water and soup

Probably, barley water is not the most exciting or tasty drink for many of us. A healthy, earthy flavor chewy grain is a great source of fiber, known to lower the cholesterol level, blood glucose and reduce gallbladder stone. Once the barley is fermented, beer is made!
Barley water is served as a homemade remedy for pregnant women who retain water in their body. At the end of last trimester some woman, have the face, feet, hand swallowed due to water retention. You might have heard from your granny or mom saying at the last trimester, reduce the intake of salt and check for blood pressure. I didn’t had any water retention but drunk once every two weeks to diuretic (increase flow of urine).
If you suffer from kidney stones, the frequent urinating help pass out the blocked stone! Or drunk in summer time when we have less urinating. But be careful not to be dehydrated.
This remedy is homemade for natural diuretic and followed in my home. If the symptoms persists for more than a day, need to consult a physician, it could be a serious symptom of any disease. I am neither a physician nor dietitian.
I used quick cooking barley in my recipe. Use the normal one, which has a great health benefit.

Ingredients:

Barley: 1/3 cup
Water: 3 ½ cups

Method:
Boil the water in a pot. Rinse the barley to take out the dirt. Add in boiling water. Simmer for an hour (if u use normal one), I prepared with quick cooking so mine was ready under 10 min.
Strain the water and drink without adding any salt! Probably little sugar or honey is ok!
But try to add little buttermilk if you don’t like the earthy smell, it is more pleasant to drink and can be drinkable without salt! (Avoid buttermilk for kidney stone)

After drinking the water, the cooked barley can be added in soup! Don’t throw away! Here a n easy soup with few things from the freezer.

Barley & chicken meat balls soup

Cooked barley
Tomato juice/V8: ½ can
Water: 1  or 2 cup(s)
Frozen mixed veggies: a handful
Cooked Chicken meat ball: 3

Add everything in the cooked barley and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Salt and pepper can be adjusted according each indivual need. U has hearty and healthy and hearty meal!

Curry leaf: Buttermilk or dairy products- calcium rich food should be avoided! That is why i mentionned no buttermilk and tomato for kidney stone patients!
