Idli/Dosa batter bondas

Today (April 14 or Chittirai 1) is the first day of Traditional Tamil Calendar! Wishing a Prosperous and Happy New Year to all Tamilian and to other States people who observe also! Festival bonds family and food together. A vegetarian meal is cooked and enjoyed along with vadas and kheer.
But today post is all about Leftover. Food leftover is a common household problem. At the worst case, I consume the next day or trash it. I know, even if store in the fridge, the food sits for 3 to 4 days and go directly to trash after a short hibernating stage! I cannot eat the same dish continuously. For minimizing food wastage, I try to cook barely for two adults and avoid storing it. So if unexpected guest peaks at dinner time, well I guaranty some egg omelet with steamed rice!
One of the rescue food items will be some Idli/ dosa batter for unexpected guest. It is always available in my fridge.I always end up with only one cup or less batter at the end, don’t know much what to do? This snack is perfect with leftover sour batter or not, with little creativity; the batter is turned into delicious Bondas. Treat your guest with some bondas and tea, they will sure glad to visit often for those treats.

Ingredients

 Idli/dosa batter: 1 ½ cup (I used the last batter/little sour)
 Besan flour: ½ cup
Rice flour: 2 tbsp (use more if the batter is watery)
Salt: a dash / check before frying (because the idli batter is salted)
 Onion: a small onion diced
 Green chilli: 4 minced
 Ginger: grated a tsp
Coconut: 1 tbps bite size pieces
 Cilantro leaves: 2 tbsp minced
 Carrot (optional): ¼ cup grated

To Deep fry
Oil

Method
Mix in the idli batter, all flours, make a thick batter (like able to scoop not watery) Add the onion, chilli, ginger, coconut, cilantro leaves and carrot (optional). Heat oil to deep fry, take a tbsp. of batter and drop in oil. Deep fry in medium heat until golden brown. Drain and serve either with coconut chutney or ketchup will work like wonder. The bondas will not suck much oil like bondas or vadas!.

My leftover creation is for the Leftover Delicacies

As the bonda contains, lentils (besan and Urad dhal) I am sending MLLA: 22 edition , created by Susan

Happy Tamil New Year to you and to your family too!!!

idli batter bondas sound delicious and that's a nice idea to avoid wasting the batter... I always have some 1 or two cups left, with which I can hardly do idlis/dosais..
tea & bondas look great together, should I be living next to your house, I'll be that unexpected guest always, hahahaha

have a nice day!!!

Puthandu VazhthukkaL Cham. Nice anecdote on the left over. I have a friend , who calls the fridge as pre 'kazhani paanai', which means the stage before the food to cow....Many times its true in my house too:)
Always like those bondas very much....even some time I feel like eating them instead of idly...hi..hi.I never like dieting:)
Your bonda is very tempting and wish to come there during tea time :)
